Jean Cassegrain set up Longchamp in 1948. At the start it was geared towards leather-coverings for pipes. By 1950 this activity developed into the production of other articles for smokers and from 1955 onwards also dealt in small leathergoods. The company is still a family-run business: today's president is the founder's son.
