IV. Competitive factors:

Traditional fibers are being progressively replaced by new generations of synthetic fibers (e.g., elastane, polypropylene) for new applications which correspond to the needs of French consumers. Because of microencapsulation techniques, it is now possible to integrate substances that are antibacterial, anti-cold or simply fragrant, without altering the appearance or the touch of the fiber or fabric.

V. Opportunities for American companies:

American chemical and technical textile manufacturers have a strong reputation for technological know-how and a high level of recognition. Best sales prospects for American companies are in the following products categories:

- Synthetic fibers,
- High performance knits (water repellent, antibacterial, UV-blocking),
- Antibacterial fibers,
- Double face fabrics,
- Reflective fabrics,
- High tech wovens (for lightness, resistance),
- Waterproof and breathable fabrics,
- High insulation fleeces,
- Sports coating,
- Down, filler and active thermoregulation.
