Pulver
Inspired by the utopic ideas of the Renaissance, Pulver titled the new collection for summer 08 UTOPIA. Golden dresses and light chiffon seems to be from Cranach's Fountain of Youth and will quickly become favorite wardrobe items. Our favorite? A shimmery yet sparse shirt and short set, vaguely reminiscent of Jil Sander.

Sandra Backlund
Sandra Backlund's Ink Blot Test collection was presented as part of the IDEAL runway show during the Mercedes-Benz/IMG Berlin Fashion Week (on Saturday, July 14; other guests included Carola Euleur, Elliot Atkinson, and Eric Lebon).
From Official Press Release for "Ink Blot Test" Collection:
Ink Blot Test is Sandra Backlund's sixth collection and was awarded with the Grand Prix at the 2007 Hyeres Festival Internationale de Mode et de Photographie.
"The handicraft process and the handmade feeling is significant," Backlund states. "I do experiment a lot with different materials and techniques but I think I have found the ultimate way to express myself through my heavy wool collage knitting. It is a freedom to be able to make your own fabric while you are working. I am interested in almost every traditional handicraft technique... I always work with the human body as a starting point. I am really fascinated by all the ways you can highlight, distort, and transform the natural silhouette of the body with clothes and accessories. I build my designs from a lot of small pieces which I attach to each other in different ways to discover the shape that I want. In that sense I guess you can say that I approach fashion more like a sculptor then a tailor. In my opinion clothes are the democratic form of art."

Smeilinener
Smeilinener presented their S/S 2008 collection at Berlin Fashion Week under the official "Tent" erected under the Brandenburg gate (July 13, 2007).
Smeilinener's S/S 2008 collection is fun and flirty. Big harlequin prints remind us of Picasso's harlequin (and John Galliano's rendition for his most recent haute couture collection shown at Versailles) and we can't help but love the fabulous flowered headbands designed by Julia Mogwitz for Smeilinener. The prints - from 60s cartoon flowers to multicolored polka dots - are joyful and the ruffled silhouette is feminine without veering into the "girly." The models at the show at smiles on their faces - how could they not? |

c.neeon
Though the coverage is from All/Winter 2007-08, we include c.neeon in our Berlin write-up, as it is a label worthy of notice...
c.neeon's FW 07/08 "Sharing Secrets" collection is pure c.neeon: that is, bright graphic fabrics inspired by Art Deco artist Tamara Lempicka that make for artsy separates. Lempicka was one of the first female Art Deco artists who did fashion graphics as well as paintings. c.neeon's prints used the same special techniques as Lempicka's paintings such as the choice of colors (poison-green, pink, blue, and red combined with various tones of grey) to the geometric decorations to the ornaments.
