Located smack dab in the middle of Paris (on the right bank), the Marais is a delicious soup of it all: famous for its Jewish heritage (and delicious falafels) the Marais has now become synonymous with Gay Paris. Men - gay or straight - this is your area to shop if you are under the age of 40. Women, these boutiques are ubiquitously French. The Marais is not haute couture, but it is not cheap. The stores are not international nor are they one of a kind like in Bastille. These stores are famous in Paris for carrying the must-haves for Parisians. The clothes may be simple, but they are made of gorgeous cashmere. The style may look relaxed, but it is composed of layers of soft separates. The look: designer jeans, slouchy boots, slouchy bag, layers of cashmere and cotton on top, and a long scarf twisted around several times. The result: Parisian to the core!
