Away from the maddness of downtown, 50th Street and above provide a safe-haven of designer shops and the best in department stores for the ladies that lunch. Socialites and old time New Yorkers drift from Bergdorf's to Saks before unwinding with a spa day. The streets are wide and regal, and there is something special about seeing a horse drawn carriage trot into Central Park as you duck into Chanel. The following photos were taken October 2005.
